About the Conference

Theme: Unlocking the economic value of public resources through progressive property and asset management systems.

Overview

The South African government is the custodian and owner of a substantial portfolio of underutilised property and assets. This includes moveable property, energy, water, and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as roads, transportation facilities  hospitals, schools, prisons, cultural facilities and nature reserves. These assets play a critical role in in improving the lives of ordinary citizens. Given the current financial and budgetary constraints, it is imperative for public property and assets to operate at maximum efficiency.

The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure 2020/21 annual report revealed that over 7 000 state-owned buildings are in poor condition. The Conference will bring to light ways to improve public property and asset management including:

  • Digital asset management systems
  • Property asset assessments, transfers and disposals
  • Energy solutions and Energy Performance Certification (EPC)
  • A revised public property and asset management framework
  • Decentralised management structures
  • Innovative property performance measures.

The Conference will  also support public sector officials and asset managers, to ensure they derive the greatest economic and social value from government asset registrar.
