The Public Works Inspection Summit 2026 will convene public-sector inspectors, regulators, built-environment professionals, policymakers, academics, and technology providers to strengthen inspection as a critical instrument for safeguarding public infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and improving construction quality across South Africa.
Building directly on the outcomes and delegate feedback from the 2025 Summit, the 2026 programme responds to growing demands for the professionalisation of inspectors, stronger enforcement of the National Building Regulations, clearer inspection methodologies, and greater integration of digital tools such as AI, BIM, drones, and data analytics. Delegates in 2025 emphasised the need for more practical training, deeper engagement with legislation, stronger alignment with professional councils (ECSA, SACPCMP, SACAP, NHBRC), and expanded coverage of inspection in municipalities and public works departments.
As public infrastructure faces increasing pressure from climate change, urbanisation, ageing assets, and constrained budgets, inspection must evolve from a compliance checkpoint into a strategic function that prevents failure, reduces risk, protects public funds, and enhances resilience. The 2026 Summit positions inspection as a cornerstone of sustainable infrastructure delivery, ethical construction practice, and long-term public value.
As public infrastructure faces increasing demands from climate change, urbanisation, and ageing systems, public works inspections stand at the forefront of ensuring safety, quality, and sustainability. This summit offers a global platform to redefine inspection not just as a compliance mechanism but as a strategic driver of economic efficiency, public safety, and long-term resilience.
