About the Programme

South Africa’s water crisis is no longer a warning but an operational reality.

The 2022 SAICE Infrastructure Report Card found that only 40% of water systems meet microbiological standards, and just 23% comply with chemical standards. Access to clean water continues to decline across several provinces. Ageing infrastructure, institutional instability, funding shortfalls, technical capacity gaps, and governance weaknesses are converging into a systemic delivery crisis.

The 2025 Water Infrastructure Asset Management Conference, themed “Building Resilient Water Systems for a Sustainable Future”, reaffirmed the importance of asset management, but delegate feedback clearly called for:

  • Stronger focus on practical implementation
  • Greater emphasis on asset management fundamentals
  • More on water demand management and rural supply
  • Technological innovation (AI, digital tools)
  • Private-public collaboration
  • Water loss reduction
  • Governance and institutional reform

This is not another high-level discussion about resilience, but rather a solutions-driven platform focused on:

  • Municipal turnaround strategies
  • Infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance
  • Investment structuring and blended finance
  • Governance reform and integrity systems
  • Climate adaptation and water security
  • Digital transformation and real-time monitoring
